About the client

IG Design Group produces wrapping paper and also creates seasonal displays. They also make combination packs with wrapping paper, bundling several rolls of wrapping paper with bows. They are also the licence holder for Disney, Star Wars, Warner Brothers and Paw Patrol

During my visit, I learned that the company has approximately 150 employees, ranging from office staff to production workers. Production consists of the printing department, the wrapping department and the combi-pack and multipack departments. IG Design also has its own design studio with product designers. The wrapping paper is printed in the printing department, after which large rolls of wrapping paper are sent to the wrapping department to be made into consumer rolls. The wrapping is carried out in two different ways: using the autowrap machine and the offline wrapping machine. Autowrap is a production process in which the large rolls are automatically wrapped into smaller rolls and automatically packaged using a conveyor belt. The main differences between the autowrap machine and the offline wrapping machine are the automatic picking up of the large rolls of wrapping paper and the automatic packaging of the consumer rolls. With the offline wrapping machine, both of these processes are carried out manually. Both the autowrap machine and the offline wrapping machine use flexible workers in roles such as production worker and process operator. The wrapping activities are scheduled according to a 3-shift system.

Alongside the printing and wrapping departments, there is the combi-pack department, where employees assemble packs containing four rolls of wrapping paper and bows, with machine support. Employees must ensure that there are enough consumer rolls for the machine to pick up, after which the bows are added manually. The packs are then sealed by machine, after which the combi-packs are packaged by hand. The roles of production worker and process operator are also found in this department. The combi-pack department works exclusively day shifts. Multipacks are also assembled in the same hall as the combi-pack department. Multipacks are 4 rolls of wrapping paper bundled together in one pack.

IG Design also assembles seasonal displays. In particular, Christmas displays are put together for the Christmas period, including wrapping paper and attractive matching bags. The displays are assembled during the day shift. Customers who purchase these displays are mainly supermarkets.

IG Design is also a welcoming company where people are very sociable.
